My paintings begin life as line drawings...

where shape and form holds reign over likeness and reality. A former illustrator and now a fulltime expressionistic painter, I shy away from camera-like images. My fine art mission: create works that show technical dexterity and good painting skills while maintaining the freedom and joy of a child's drawing.

The design for the pieces must have "good bones"...

or the painting will fail. Hours are spent on drawings and tissue overlays until I am happy with both the work's composition and energy. Images may be fractured to enhance a sense of motion and shape. It is only at this point that brushes and paint enter the picture. Changes continue to occur as the image emerges.

Each work is a love affair with color and optimism...

that hopefully provokes a smile from my audience. When the viewer has an emotional response to my endeavor, I am happy.
